History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during the year 1919. The company was first established by Anton Raky, an engineer. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The initial company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was obtained by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling equipment. In 1986, the company acquired the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the following years.
