The Liebherr family business was created during 1949 by Hans Liebherr. The company initially gained fame from its mobile tower crane that was well-known for its ease of assembly and affordability. It was upon this creation that the company's foundation flourished under. Now, Liebherr has grown to become one of the leading manufacturers in the field of construction equipment. The company has also gained the reputation of being the acknowledged provider of user-oriented technically innovative products and services in a range of fields. The business has now become a "Group" working in each and every continent with more than 35,000 employees and over 130 companies across the world.
In order to guarantee a manageable operating size, the Liebherr Group has been divided into different company units. These units have been designed to operate separately. This set up enables the company the ability to be flexible to market signals and stay in tune with global competition. Moreover, having so many individual company units also ensures customer proximity and keeps customer service running at an optimum level.
The divisional control companies handle the production for the individual product segments and the operative management of the sales companies. The Liebherr Group presently has ten various product divisions.
Liebherr-International AG is the holding company of the Liebherr Group. They are located within Bulle, Switzerland and are totally owned by the Liebherr family members. At present, the family business is being managed in the 2nd generation by Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr and his sister Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr. Since the year 2012, some of the active individual divisions have been represented by members of the family in the 3rd generation such as: Jan Liebherr, Sophie Albrecht, Patricia Ruf and Stefanie Wohlfarth. These members of the family have been working hard together to help set up the family business' course in the future. They are staying on top of residential buildings and large-scale industrial projects all around the globe.
Hans Liebherr started to build his business during 1949, within a small town known as Kirchdorf within southern Germany. Kirchdorf, now supports amongst Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations. They employ over 1400 people in that specific workforce and could average an annual output of approximately 2800 wheeled excavators.
