Types of Forklifts

Forklifts are used to carry and transport loads that are heavy, usually inside warehouses and construction environments. They are commonly found in material handling and other manufacturing operations. There are various types of forklifts used for various types of applications.

The way forklifts are powered is the main difference between them. Some are electric powered and several use internal combustion motors. For lifting heavy loads while maintaining low operating expenses, the best choice are usually electric forklifts. Electric forklifts are commonly found in indoor work environments. For outdoor applications, internal combustion forklifts are commonly recommended.

A manual drive, fork truck and motorized drive are the three kinds of forklifts. Fork trucks are motorized and have backup alarms and cabs. Motorized drive forklifts usually have a protected seat for the driver. Manual drive forklifts are powered manually.

Some forklifts are counterbalanced to be able to avoid tipping. Other safety features comprise turntables or handrails. Specialty forklifts are available for certain uses. For example, narrow aisle forklifts are designed to work within extremely tight spaces. Rough-terrain forklifts work well on surfaces which are uneven and rocky.
